IT'S AN IMPOSTER!

EASTERN FOX SNAKE
Elaphe gloydi

The eastern foxsnake is more commonly mistaken for the massasauga rattlesnake than any other species in Ontario.  However, when you take a close look, they don't have that much in common.  With a body length of 90-140 cm, an adult foxsnake can be three times as long as an adult rattler!  Foxsnakes are so named for a musky scent they secrete when threatened, which some people say smells like a fox.
